PA011: Aloof – Move Your Cars (digital)
Release text:
Samples and grit form the basis of Aloof’s quirky house music output.
Though a relatively fresh name on the club scene, Aloof is known in Denmark by his birth name Lukas Lunderskov as an integral part of the hip hop scene. As a rapper and producer both in his own right and working with some of the county’s leading acts.
This background in golden era hiphop is clearly heard in his productions as Aloof. A sample based aesthetic. MPC style grit, off-grid grooves and off-kilter samples combine for that dirty house sound, reminiscent of Chicago’s heyday, though neither retro nor nostalgic.
“Move Your Cars (Camaro Mix)”
Simultaneously funky and eerie. Distorted drums and synths that sound like they might be broken or at least rusty. Mixed up with the perfectly out of tune vocal sample telling us to move our cars.
Don’t forget to listen for the quirky little sound details. Effects and delays floating around, creating a deeper, more delicate space than your usual dance floor groover.
“Walkman”
We’re still in eerie-land, but this time with a breakbeat that makes you wish you had spend more time practicing your b-boy moves when you had the chance.
“Move Your Cars (Bjørn Svins GRRRCAR Remix)”
Danish techno legend Bjørn Svin is never not on top. This remix is like a katamari, rolling and rolling, slowly growing and evolving. Picking up new sounds as it goes along, changing character. But constantly rolling.
“Move Your Cars (Cherokee Mix)”
This DJ package includes a slightly different mix of the main track, so you can choose the one that fits best for you!
